Nothing appears in the display, even when the power is turned on

Possible reasons that there is nothing on the display when the power is on: 

Batteries are drained. Replace the batteries with new ones. 

Battery terminals are not in the correct position. Reinstall the batteries with negative and positive terminals matching those indicated on the battery compartment.
